Arne Duncan served as the secretary of education he was in action on January 20, 2009. Duncan's accomplisments were greatly known of, he was a big help to securing congressional support for Obama's investments into the education system. Including the reinvestment act funding one hundred billion dollars towards teachers across the US. He also took a hand in reforming lower performing schools in low income areas. Before Arne became the secretary of education, he was the chief executive officer of the Chicago Public Schools. He held that position from June 2001 to December 2008. He was especially renowned for his ability to unite education reformers, teachers, principals and business stakeholders including opening 100 new schools. Arne Duncan became private partners with several different means of education boosting the caliber of teachers everywhere. This man is credited with raising students performance across America. He is why graduation rates and the reason so many students have taken Advanced Placement Courses. Boosting the number of scholarships by students to more then one hundred and fifty million dollars. Duncan also ran a nonprofit organization from 1992 to 1998 called the education foundation, which funded inner city children for a college class from the Have a Dream program. All of Duncan's success was because he graduated from Harvard in 1987, He majored in sociology and shortly after married a women who is now known as Karen Duncan. They have two children who go to private schools in Arlington Va.
